In this method for determining the target torque (Tq) to be applied to a wheel train of a motor vehicle comprising an accelerator pedal, the method comprises steps for determining the target torque (Tq) by a mapping as a function of the position (Pacc) of the pedal. This mapping comprises a first curve (C1), a second curve (C2) on which the torque (Tq) is equal to a constant (Tq1) when the position (Pacc) of the pedal is between a first intermediate position (P1) and a second intermediate position (P2). The mapping further comprises a third curve (C3) defining the target torque (Tq), the third curve (C3) being above the second curve (C2).
