The invention relates to a method for operating a motor vehicle (10) with a headlight (12), in which light (28) generated by a light-generating device (26) is reflected out of the headlight (12) by means of a mirror element (30) that is pivotably mounted about at least one pivot axis (S), wherein the mirror element (30) is pivoted on both sides relative to a neutral position (N) by respectively one angle (±1, ±2) by means of a pivoting device (34) in order to generate a light distribution (14, 16) of the headlight (12), wherein a control device (36) sets an amount of at least one of the angles (±1, ±2) in dependence on a received control signal and thereby adjusts the light distribution (14, 16) of the headlight (12).
