What is described is a cooling device (14) for cooling a battery, in particular a vehicle traction battery, having at least one cooling element (16), through which a cooling fluid for transporting away thermal energy flows, and having a preload element (22) and a carrier element (20), which has a contact surface (29) for contacting the cooling element (16). The preload element (22) loads the carrier element (20) on the side opposite the contact surface (29). The carrier element (20) is also formed from a material that has a lower thermal conductivity than the material from which the preload element (22) is formed.
