The invention relates to a thunderstorm early warning system (100, 300, 400, 500) for a vehicle with at least one control unit (101, 101a, 101b, 101c, 101d) which has a sensor (102) for detecting at least one electromagnetic signal, and a processor (103) through which the signal detected by the sensor (102) can be interpreted and in particular a thunderstorm can be detected, and with a display device (104, 104a, 104b, 104c, 104d) through which at least when a thunderstorm is detected by the processor a warning signal can be displayed. It is distinguished in that the display device (104, 104a, 104b, 104c, 104d) can be arranged or is arranged on and/or in a rear-view device (201, 401) and/or a console of the motor vehicle.
