Seat belt position detecting system and method

A detecting system for detecting a position of a seat belt applied to a person (2, 7) seated in a vehicle seat (3, 9) in a vehicle (1), the detecting system including at least one detecting unit (14, 20) which is an electromagnetic radiation detecting unit (14, 20). The detecting system is configured to determine the presence of a seat belt (4, 10) in at least one location (31, 35, 36, 38) on the body of the person (2,7) seated in the vehicle seat (3,9), based on radiation data retrieved from the detecting unit (14, 20). A method for detecting the position of a seat belt applied to a person (2, 7) seated in a vehicle seat (3, 9) is also disclosed.
