According to the invention, the driver assistance system is configured as a coupling assistance system and, to support a coupling process, detects with the at least one camera (9) a trailer/semi-trailer (3) positioned behind the tractor vehicle (2) with the position of its coupling device (4). By evaluating the video image material, an optimal coupling trajectory is calculated by means of image processing algorithms as an optimal target trajectory (10) between tractor vehicle (2) and trailer/semi-trailer (3), and the assistance system communicates to the vehicle operator the optimal target trajectory (10) and/or necessary steering movements for maintaining the target trajectory and/or performs automatic steering interventions for this purpose.",
