DETECTING MISFIRING IN A GASEOUS FUEL OPERATED INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

Source
A method of detecting incomplete combustion, such as misfire, in a gaseous fuel operated internal combustion engine is disclosed. The method comprises receiving (step 402) a pressure data corresponding to a temporal development of an internal cylinder pressure during combustion within a single combustion cycle, deriving (step 404) from the pressure data (506, 508, 510) for that specific combustion cycle a combustion energy value of the combustion, determining (step 406B) that the derived combustion energy value is beyond a predetermined combustion-cycle specific combustion threshold level, and associating (step 410) the combustion event with an incomplete combustion at that specific combustion cycle.
