The invention relates to a method for optimizing a driving operation of a motor vehicle. The invention further relates to a motor vehicle with a control device for determining a consumption-optimized speed trajectory, which is designed to carry out the method, and a user interface for inputting a user-defined maximum speed. The method comprises the following steps: establishing a maximum speed of the vehicle by means of an input via a user interface; determining a consumption-optimized speed trajectory (2) along a predetermined driving route of the vehicle (4) under a boundary condition that the speed trajectory (2) does not exceed the established maximum speed (1).
