Power converter

A power converter in which reduction in weight and size can be realized and improvement in reliability can be realized by properly protecting power switching elements is to be provided. A power converter for rolling stock includes a filter capacitor that smoothes a DC voltage, an overvoltage protection device that releases charge accumulated in the filter capacitor, a plurality of power switching elements that convert a DC voltage into an AC voltage, a cooling unit that cools the power switching elements, and a conductor bar that electrically connects the filter capacitor, the overvoltage protection device, and the power switching elements. The overvoltage protection device is provided closer to the filter capacitor.
