The invention relates to a document with an integrated display device that comprises a plurality of equally constructed controllable display elements, wherein the plurality has a first and a second subset of display elements, wherein each display element of the first subset has a first intensity upon a predefined control, and wherein each display element of the second subset has a second intensity upon the same predefined control, wherein the second intensity is less than the first intensity, and wherein information is encoded through the arrangement of the display elements of the first and second subset.
