The invention relates to a method for treating exhaust gas condensates of an internal combustion engine, in which exhaust gas comprising nitrogen oxides is supplied to an exhaust gas recirculation system and cooled therein, whereby exhaust gas condensate is provided. In the method, in which an energy-efficient neutralization of condensates is carried out, nitrogen oxides of the cooled exhaust gas condensates are converted into ammonia by means of electrolysis.
