An electrode for a rechargeable lithium battery includes: a current collector, one surface of the current collector being partitioned into a first region and a second region spaced apart from the first region; a safety functional layer on the first region; an active material layer on the first region, the safety functional layer being between the current collector and the active material layer; and an insulating layer on the second region. A length of the safety functional layer is longer than that of the active material layer, and the electrode satisfies Equation 1: Equation 1 in which a is a separation distance between the active material layer and the insulating layer, and b is a separation distance between the safety functional layer and the insulating layer.
