A battery cell according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may include: an electrode assembly including a first electrode, a second electrode, and a separator interposed therebetween; a battery housing configured to accommodate the electrode assembly through an opening formed on one side; a top cap assembly configured to cover the opening, electrically connected to the first electrode, and electrically insulated from the battery housing; a sealing gasket interposed between the battery housing and the top cap assembly, and configured to electrically insulate the battery housing and the top cap assembly from each other; and an expandable member provided in at least a portion of the sealing gasket so as to be in a state expected to be expanded or an expanded state, and configured to fill a gap between the sealing gasket and the top cap assembly when in the expanded state.
