An apparatus for diagnosing a battery according to the present disclosure includes a profile obtaining unit configured to obtain a battery profile representing a correspondence relationship between voltage and capacity of a battery that is charged or discharged at a predetermined target C-rate; a profile correcting unit configured to generate a corrected profile by correcting the battery profile based on an overpotential profile representing overpotential of a criterion battery for each capacity that occurs when the criterion battery is charged or discharged at the target C-rate, and generate an adjusted negative electrode profile adjusted to represent a correspondence relationship between a negative electrode capacity and a negative electrode potential of the battery using the corrected profile; and a control unit configured to diagnose a state of the battery based on a negative electrode end potential value extracted from the adjusted negative electrode profile.
