The apparatus includes a mechanism which is configured so as to determine a particular region to be monitored with the approach detection outside the vehicle as a function of at least one sensor signal of at least one sensor, in particular at least one camera, one infrasonic sensor, one ultrasonic sensor, one radar sensor, or one ultra-wideband sensor.
