The present invention relates to a thermally insulated internal combustion engine, wherein the surface of one or more parts of the internal combustion engine is completely or partially surrounded by a polyurethane foam. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a thermally insulated internal combustion engine, wherein an engine part is provided, the part of the engine part to be foamed is surrounded with a mold such that a cavity is created between the engine part and the mold, a polyurethane reaction mixture is introduced into the cavity, the polyurethane reaction mixture is allowed to react to form a polyurethane foam, and the mold is removed.
