Starter

A starter (1) includes an output shaft (4) which receives rotational force of a motor portion (3) and rotates, a housing (17) that rotatably supports an end portion (104b) on one side of the output shaft (4), and an electromagnetic device (9) that applies and blocks an electric current to the motor portion (3) and biases pressing force directed to a ring gear (23) to a pinion gear (74) through a clutch mechanism (5), wherein a damper portion (50) that mitigates shock in an axial direction from the output shaft (4) to a housing (17) is provided between the housing (17) and an end portion (104b) on one side of the output shaft (4).
