The present disclosure refers to a battery system (100), including a battery pack (10) including a housing (11) and a plurality of battery cells (12) accommodated within the housing (11); wherein the battery pack (10) includes a plurality of piezoelectric sensors (22, 24, 26, 28) attached to the housing (11) to detect a dimensional change of the housing (11) caused by an increased pressure inside of at least one of the battery cells (12) due to a degassing of the at least one of battery cell.
