The invention relates to a ball joint (2) and a motor vehicle steering arm with such a ball joint (2). The ball joint (2) has a base body (3) and a ball socket (25) formed in the base body (3) as well as a ball stud (21) with an articulation ball (22). The articulation ball (22) of the ball stud (21) is received in the ball socket (25) and held by a retaining ring (26). The retaining ring (26) has a flange section (29) resting against the base body (3). The base body (3) and flange section (29) are connected by a circumferential weld seam (37). The flange section (29) has a groove (39) on its outer circumference (38), one groove flank (40, 41) of which is designed as a welding surface (42). The welding beam (S) is directed onto the welding surface (42) during the joining process. The welding surface (42) is sufficiently large that component tolerances or irregularities in the welding movement are compensated for. Below the welding surface (42) in the contact area between the base body (3) and retaining ring (26), a highly stable welded connection is formed.
