Event detection and recording methods and systems

Event detection and recording methods and systems 10 for vehicles are disclosed. The methods and systems comprise continuously storing event data to a memory 16, overwriting the oldest event data when the memory 16 is full, detecting the occurrence of an event concerning the vehicle and write-protecting portions of the memory containing event data stored over a predetermined period during which the detected event occurred. The event data comprises a plurality of video image sets generated by a respective plurality of video cameras 24. The plurality of video cameras 24 are positioned and arranged relative to one another to simultaneously view and generate the video images which are of respective portions of a peripheral area substantially surrounding the vehicle.
