A method for determining a speed profile (Vg) of a motor vehicle, comprising the steps: a) determining an elevation profile (Hp) of an upcoming driving route (Svoraus) subdivided essentially into equidistant sections; b) relating the elevation profile (Hp) to a defined reference value; c) decomposing the elevation profile (Hp) into individual frequencies (Fi) by means of Fourier analysis; d) performing phase shifts (Ji) for the frequencies (Fi) by means of a first function (FPhase); e) influencing amplitudes (Ai) of the frequencies (Fi) by means of a second function (FAmplitude); and f) determining the speed profile (Vg) from the frequencies (Fi) processed in steps d) and e) by means of Fourier analysis, wherein a speed of the motor vehicle at a starting position (Pa) is assumed as a desired speed (vw).
