Device (100) with a camera unit (10) that serves for image capture of the exterior area of a motor vehicle, and a cover element (20) that is movable via a drive (50) between a closed position (I), in which the cover element (20) covers an opening (2) of the device (100), and an open position (II), in which the cover element (20) releases the opening (2), wherein in the closed position (I) of the cover element (20) the camera unit (10) is inaccessible from outside and located behind the cover element (20) and in the open position (II) of the cover element (20) image capture is performable. The cover element (20) is an actuating element for the camera unit (10) in order to transition the camera unit (10) between a rest position (A) and an operating position (B).
