In a setting-out marker for marking buildings and the like with a base plate (10) and a carrier plate (16) bearing a reflection element (22), the carrier plate (16) is adjustable relative to the base plate (10) between a transport position, in which the carrier plate (16) lies substantially parallel to the base plate (10), and a working position, in which the carrier plate (16) stands perpendicular to the base plate (10). The base plate (10) has at least one opening (48, 56) with a first edge that runs parallel to the carrier plate (16) standing in its working position in the reference plane (20) of the reflection element (22), and with a second edge that lies perpendicular to the first edge in a plane that is perpendicular to the base plate (10) and passes through the center of the reflection element (22).
