The method involves generating a diagnostic signal (Idiag) in form of a diagnostic flow, which corresponds to a sum of diagnostic current from individual streams. The lamps (02-06) of light (01) are provided with failure detection unit (11) for light sources (10) of each lamp. The sum of any combination of individual diagnosis streams having a current strength of sum diagnostic signal failure detection is associated with such a level that a clear conclusion for fulfillment of currently required lighting functions of light is provided for lamps which are in good and bad conditions.
