A BRAKE RELEASE SYSTEM FOR A VEHICLE COMPRISING A PARKING BRAKE

A brake release system for a vehicle comprising a parking brake which has a brake chamber (24). Apart from a regular air supply passage (22), the system comprises an auxiliary air supply passage (38) which can supply pressurized air the brake chamber for releasing the parking brake. A valve device (40) is provided in the auxiliary air supply passage, wherein the valve device has a closed first state in which pressurized air is prevented from being supplied from the auxiliary air supply passage to the brake chamber through the valve device, and an open second state in which pressurized air is allowed to be supplied from the auxiliary air supply passage to the brake chamber through the valve device for releasing the parking brake. Upon receipt of both a first signal S1, indicative of loss of pressure in the regular air supply passage, and a second signal S2, indicative of the electronic parking brake switch (26) being in the OFF state, the valve device is triggered to change from the closed first state to the open second state to allow pressurized air to pass to the brake chamber via the auxiliary air supply passage.
