The device (10) has side view assist ultrasonic sensors (21,22,23,24) of a blind spot monitoring system (20) for detecting an object, particularly an approaching vehicle in a dead angle. A control unit (40) is provided for determining a distance, speed and a position of the moving object. The control unit is designed, such that the signal of park pilot ultrasonic sensors (31,32,33,34) of a driver assistance system (30) is processed for monitoring the dead angle. An independent claim is included for a method for detecting object, particularly an approaching vehicle in a dead angle.
