The image capture unit is configured to be attached to vehicle such that viewing area on side of vehicle is sensed with portions of first and second legally-prescribed fields of views (62,64). The lens is arranged with respect to digital image sensing unit such that optical axis extends through portion of first legally-prescribed field of view that is reproduced on the digital image sensing unit.
