The silencer (1) has first housing section (4) and second housing section (5) having shells which overlap at least in parts. In the overlapping region (6), a shell exterior face of first housing section (4a) rests against a shell interior face of second housing section (5b), and shell exterior face of first housing section and shell interior face of second housing section each have a constant cross-section as seen in axial direction, at least in overlapping region. The housing sections include the recesses (21,22) in which a flow duct (2), e.g., pipe, extends through. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing the silencer.
