The present disclosure generally relates to a self-cleaning throttle valve (80) to be used in an internal combustion engine. The disclosed throttle valve (80) may comprise a valve housing (90) including a side wall (92), an inlet (94), and an outlet (96) extending through the side wall (92). The throttle valve (90) may further comprise a valve seat (98) disposed at the outlet (96) and at least partially protruding into the valve housing (96), and a valve shut-off element (100) arranged within the valve housing (90) and being rotatable about a rotational axis (C) between a first position in which the valve shut-off element (100) is spaced apart from the valve seat (98) and a second position in which the valve shut-off element (100) engages the valve seat (98) and closes the outlet (96).
