A rechargeable battery (100) includes an electrode assembly (110) that comprises a first electrode plate (111), a second electrode plate (112), and a separator (113) interposed between the first and second electrode plates. The battery also includes a can (120) having an opening and accommodating the electrode assembly therein, wherein the can (120) comprises a plurality of corner portions (120R1, 120R2), wherein at least one of the corner portions is rounded, and wherein the outer radius (R) of curvature of the at least one corner portion is greater than the inner radius (r) of curvature thereof. This results in a higher impact resistance of the can.
