Repetitive combustion cycles, including the ignition of the air-fuel mixture by the ignition device and combustion of the air-fuel mixture, are executed. The internal combustion engine further has an electromagnetic (EM) wave-emitting device that emits EM radiation to the combustion chamber; a plurality of receiving antennas located on an outer circumference side of the zoning material that defines the combustion chamber; antenna which resonate with to the EM radiation that is emitted into the combustion chamber from the EM-wave-emitting device; and a control means which controls the EM-wave-emitting device such that the radiating antenna emits EM radiation into the combustion chamber while a flame caused by the ignition of the air-fuel mixture propagates.",
