Providing additional data for a route calculation

The method involves determining a position of a navigation device as an initial position (201). The determination is made whether initial position is in an output region (202). All exit points (301-304) where road leaves the output region are determined. Node for exit point is selected as starting transition node that is arranged at an end of a track connecting exit points with node outside of output region. The nodes located outside of output region are selected as intermediate nodes. The cost values are assigned to starting transition node and intermediate nodes. An independent claim is included for a navigation device.
