A method of determining the longitudinal pitch (P) of blocks (11, 11*) of a tread band (4) having a raised pattern with a number of longitudinal grooves (9) and transverse grooves (10); the method including the step of calculating a best longitudinal pitch (P b ) of the blocks (11, 11*), to minimize pass-by noise at a target speed (V), as a function of a whole number (m) greater than zero, the length (L 0 ) of an impact/release sequence of the blocks (11, 11*), the speed of sound (c), and an impact/release sequence geometric offset index (”P) of the blocks (11, 11*).
