Provided is a cathode active material for a lithium secondary battery, which can achieve both of excellent rate characteristic and practically sufficient durability (cycle characteristic) in the lithium secondary battery. The cathode active material for a lithium secondary battery includes open pores therein. A particle or film of the cathode active material for a lithium secondary battery has formed a large number of open pores therein. The inner wall of each of such open pores is coated with a conductive film.
