DRIVE
February 5, 2014
A pneumatic tire is disclosed comprising a cavity (40), a first and a second sidewall (30, 32) extending respectively from a first and a second tire bead region (34, 36) to a tire tread region (38), the first sidewall having at least one bending region operatively bending when radially within a rolling tire footprint (120); a sidewall groove (56) defined by groove walls positioned within the bending region of the first tire sidewall (30), the sidewall groove (56) operatively deforming segment by segment between a non-deformed state and a deformed, constricted state in response to a bending of the bending region of the first sidewall (30) while radially within the rolling tire footprint (120); an air passageway (43) defined by the sidewall groove or located within the sidewall groove (56) and operatively deforming segment by segment between an expanded condition and an at least partially collapsed condition in response to respective segment by segment deformation of the sidewall groove (56) when radially within the rolling tire footprint (120); and a filter element (200) disposed between the cavity (40) and atmosphere, the filter element (200) being constructed of or comprising a porous plastic, and the filter element (200) comprising fastening means for securing the filter element (200) to the pneumatic tire (12).
