The method involves providing damping elements (110,120) that exhibit variable damping, and changing the damping as a function of a power variable that represents propelling power of the driver. The vehicle is provided with a pedal crank bearing through which the vehicle is propelled, and a torque variable representing torque present at the pedal crank bearing is represented by the power variable. The damping is changed additionally as a function of curve over time of the power variable. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a control unit; and (2) a bicycle.
