A pneumatic tire includes a tread having a tread surface (1); at least one circumferential main groove (2, 3) extending circumferentially around the tread; and a plurality of lateral grooves (4, 5) extending at an angle to a tread width direction. The tread surface is partitioned into a plurality of blocks by the circumferential main groove and the lateral grooves, each of the blocks being provided with one or more sipes. The pneumatic tire further includes a plurality of reversely inclined lateral grooves (8), each extending, across at least two blocks, in a direction opposite to the inclination direction of the lateral grooves with respect to the tread width direction. Each of the reversely inclined lateral grooves has both ends (9a, 9b) terminated inside the blocks.
