A compound cycle engine (10) has an output shaft (16); at least two rotary units (12) each defining an internal combustion engine, a velocity turbine (26), and a turbocharger (18). The velocity turbine (26) includes a rotor in driving engagement with the output shaft (16) between two of the rotary units (12). The exhaust port (50) of each rotary unit (12) is in fluid communication with the flowpath (66) of the velocity turbine (26) upstream of its rotor. The outlet of the compressor (20) of the turbocharger (18) is in fluid communication with the inlet port (48) of each rotary unit (12). The inlet of the pressure turbine (22) of the turbocharger (18) is in fluid communication with the flowpath (66) of the velocity turbine (26) downstream of its rotor.
