The filter element (1) has an adsorption filter layer (20) with hydrophobic activated carbon, and a fine filter layer (30) for separating aerosols. A circumferential seal (41) is operable for sealably separating a raw side (61) from a clean side (62) of a filter housing when installed into the filter housing, where the fine filter layer is operable to separate aerosols from the filtered air flow. An inflow-sided prefilter layer (10) is operable to separate dust from the airflow, where the adsorption filter layer is open-pore foam. An independent claim is also included for a method for cleaning inlet air of agricultural or work machines.
