Battery, in particular lead battery

The battery (1) has positive and negative electrode plates (2, 3) arranged alternating to each other and spaced at a distance relative to each other by leaving a gap (5). The positive electrode plates are retrofitted with a spacer (6). The spacer is designed in two parts. The spacer includes a head part (7) designed on a head side of the positive electrode plates, and a foot part (8) designed on a foot side of the positive electrode plates. The spacer supports the adjacent plates in a head region and a foot region in a final mounted state of the battery.
