Aspects of the present invention relate to a control system, comprising one or more controller, for an electric vehicle, the control system comprising input means () to receive a heat request signal () indicative of a request for heating of one or more modules of the vehicle, and a temperature signal indicative of a temperature of a transmission () associated with a traction electric machine () of the vehicle, output means () to output a control signal () for causing a heat exchanger () associated with the transmission () to output heat for the one or more modules of the vehicle, and processing means () arranged to determine transmission heating power in dependence on the temperature signal, and to compare the transmission heating power and electric heating power for the request for heating, wherein the processing means is arranged to control the output means to output the control signal in dependence on the comparison.
