A traction drive for propelling a vehicle includes first and second drive components (*) that generate heat during operation. A cooling system for tempering the drive components (*) has a first cooling circuit (), a second cooling circuit (), and a heat exchanger (). The heat exchanger () is designed to transfer heat between the first and second cooling circuits (). The first cooling circuit () passes through the first drive component (*) in order to temper the first drive component (*) and the second cooling circuit () passes through the second drive component (*) in order to temper the second drive component (*). A valve () is arranged in the first cooling circuit () for adjusting the flow of coolant from the first cooling circuit () through the heat exchanger ().
