Method and device for automatically actuating a locking element of a vehicle

The method involves detecting a movement of an object in a surrounding area of a vehicle (10). A locking element is automatically actuated if the detected movement is corresponded to a predetermined movement profile. Another movement profile is generated depending on the detected movement, if the detected movement is not corresponded to the predetermined movement profile. An independent claim is also included for a device for automatic actuation of a locking element of a vehicle.
