According to a method for producing a catalyst-coated membrane in the present invention, in order to prevent a polymer electrolyte membrane 1 from being curled when catalyst ink is dried to forma catalyst layer 4a, a membrane-shape retaining film-assembly is prepared such that a shape retaining film 2 is attached on one surface of the polymer electrolyte membrane 1 so as to protrude from both sides of the polymer electrolyte membrane 1 in a width direction, and then the catalyst layer 4a is formed on another surface of the polymer electrolyte membrane 1.
