Reactive power compensation

The method involves connecting a screening capacitor (4) of an electrical appliance (1) to an electric supply network (3) for reactive power compensation of the electric supply network in a stand-by operation of the electrical appliance and/or when the electrical appliance is switched off the electric supply network. The capacitor is utilized for screening and/or filtering electromagnetic interference in the electrical appliance. The capacitor is controlled by a remote control signal of the electric supply network, where the control signal is switchable off and on.
