Lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF 6) solution obtained by treating a non-aqueous halide containing LiPF 6 solution with at least one sodium hydride or sodium metal as an additive, is claimed, where the LiPF 6 is dissolved. Independent claims are included for: (1) producing corrosion resistant LiPF 6 solution and removing halides, preferably fluoride ions, comprising neutralizing the LiPF 6 solution and sodium hydride (preferred) or sodium metal and then separating insoluble components, where the LiPF 6 is dissolved in acetonitrile; (2) Use of at least one sodium hydride or sodium metal for the production of non-corrosive LiPF 6-solution; and (3) reducing the corrosivity of the solution in electrochemical storage devices, comprising subjecting the solutions to neutralization and then removing solids, where the neutralization is preformed with the addition of sodium hydride or sodium metal to LiPF 6-solution in the acetonitrile and then separating the solids by filtration (preferred), sedimentation, centrifuging or flotation to remove the additive and/or other substances present as a solid, preferably to remove excess of sodium hydride or sodium metal.
