The method involves repeatedly obtaining the parameters of components of the power line communication (PLC) system using a data collection unit. The parameters are provided with the information regarding the segment of the power supply network. The time course of the parameter data is formed for determining the state and/or change in state of the power supply network by an evaluation unit.
