A secondary combustion chamber (40) located outside of the primary combustion chamber (20) includes a shroud that defines a fluid passage, a secondary nozzle proximate to an upstream portion of the shroud, and means for igniting fuel in the secondary combustion chamber (40). A method for conditioning a working fluid in a combustor (10) includes flowing the working fluid through a primary combustion chamber (20) and flowing at least a portion of the working fluid through a secondary combustion chamber (40) located outside of the primary combustion chamber (20). The method further includes flowing a fuel through the secondary combustion chamber (40), combusting the fuel to produce combustion gases, and flowing the combustion gases from the secondary combustion chamber (40) into the primary combustion chamber (20).",
