A piston (1) for a reciprocating combustion engine (2) has a piston crown (111) end facing the combustion space and a piston skirt end remote from the combustion space (112) and a peripheral surface (7) extending between said piston crown end facing the combustion space (111) and said piston skirt end remote from the combustion space (112). A lubricant reservoir (8) is provided on a peripheral surface (7, 71, 72, 73) of the piston (1) or on a piston ring (41, 42, 43), which lubricant reservoir (8) has an opening (81) in the direction of the piston crown end (111) facing the combustion space of the piston (1) and a lubricant collection element (82) to prevent lubricant from flowing downwardly such that lubricant is collectable in the lubricant collection element (82) and is releasable upon movement of the piston (1).
