A converter system (10) for converting a DC voltage into a three-phase AC voltage is provided. A two-phase inverter (20) provides a DC input (21,22) and has first and second AC outputs (23, 24). The two-phase inverter (20) is configured to convert a DC voltage applied to the DC input (21,22) into a first AC voltage (91) provided at the first AC output (23) and a second AC voltage (92) provided at the second AC output (24). The first and second AC voltages (91,92) are phase shifted with respect to each other. A transformer (30) is connected to the first and second AC outputs (23,24) for transforming the first and second AC voltages (91,92) into a three-phase AC voltage (Y1, Y2, Y3).
